Maxence Darilek

He/him

In the 2180s, Maxence James Darilek was raised with his sister in the outskirts beyond Dallas. When he entered preschool, he was recruited for Renovatio—an engineering organization. They trained him to become Dallas' Arkhitekton. For a few years, he gathered friends as advisors—including Alex and Annie—and contributed success to the organization. But when the group tried to temporarily leave the building without permission, Renovatio Officials caught the group. As punishment, Maxence's advisors were killed. Alex was the only one who escaped. Maxence ruminated over this in "A Puppet of Idealistic Will."

For years after, Maxence was kept as a drugged puppet of Renovatio. When Corelai was introduced as his potential successor, he saw a way out of his torment. Their fates became bound as they discovered their ties to technology and the artificial intelligence known as the Mainframe. Eventually, Maxence reunited with Alex and joined the Antistasi—an organization that aimed to reform the religious government. Maxence participated in the new system experiment that was Tribu Amalricus—a federal government uniting many city-states across the North American Region. Maxence and Corelai entered a queerplatonic relationship. The two decided to explore outer space together.

During "Gavin and Jamelia," Maxence and Corelai discovered an emergency housing satellite and uncovered the scandal behind it. In the aftermath, they adopted Jamelia.

In "Death's Mending Touch," Maxence and Corelai continued exploring outer space.

Appearance

Maxence was born a human. He was a skinny, 5'3", white trans man. He tended to have short, curly, light brown hair. Sometimes, he dyed blond streaks into his hair. He had light blue eyes. He wore rectangular glasses. He preferred loose, light clothing like T-shirts and shorts. During "Gavin and Jamelia" and "Death's Mending Touch," he was most often seen in his NASAX astronaut uniform.

Personality, Behavior, Et Cetera

Maxence had high standards for the people he was around, making him an intimidating figure when combined with how subtle his expressions could be. He was quite attentive to the few people he strongly cared about.

He was autistic. He didn't often smile or have as expressive of expressions as most people expected. Some of it was because he grew up not having a lot of reasons to smile, and the rest was because he didn't feel the need to. He showed that he liked being around people in other ways, like saying roundabout reasons for staying near someone when he didn't have to. He wasn't comfortable in crowds, but was fine with addressing them.

He had clever ways of problem solving and took well to commanding technology. His engineering specialty was in mechanical engineering. His other interests were in policy, government, and outer space. He made a knowledgeable negotiator for Earth. He hated math, but he would do it when it was needed.

He was a trans man, aromantic, and in a queerplatonic relationship.

He recovered from years of being forced to take controlling drugs. He suffered nightmares, hallucinations, and mood swings during this time.

Relationships

Growing up, Maxence was on competitive terms with his older sister, who was recruited for Renovatio at the same time as he was. He didn't often see her after though, as they were divided between Dallas and Houston. Maxence didn't mind being apart from his family. He made friends at Renovatio, including Alex and Annie.

In his teenage years, he met Corelai. They became close quickly—Corelai saw past what everyone else saw, knowing Maxence was more intelligent than he let on. So he let her in, and her understanding solidified his trust of her. He was okay with her friends, although not particularly close with any of them.

When Maxence and Corelai started exploring outer space together, their queerplatonic relationship involved them living and working with each other, prioritizing time together, and being comfortable touching each other. Not everyone understood how they worked well together, but they didn't mind.

During "Gavin and Jamelia," Maxence and Corelai rescued Jamelia from an abandoned emergency housing satellite. Since Jamelia didn't have anywhere to go, Maxence and Corelai agreed that she could stay with them until she got back on her feet. After some time, they realized that legally adopting Jamelia would be most beneficial to her. Jamelia seemed to have a similar kind of understanding of Maxence that Corelai did, so he felt fairly comfortable with trying to help her as a mentor figure.
