Fay "Corelai" Darilek
She/her
In the 2180s, Fayre Deanna Carillo-Jackson grew up an edge city outside of Dallas. Without remembering it, an artificial intelligence known as the Mainframe chose Fayre to one day locate and unite the Sivylla. During her teenage years, Renovatio—an engineering organization—discovered Fayre's experience and interest in engineering. When she was recruited, she chose her engineer stage name to be Corelai—her mother's name.
Maxence, the Arkhitekton of Dallas, trained Corelai to replace his position. After some time as the Arkhitekton of Dallas and then the Arkhitekton of Houston, Corelai joined the Antistasi—an organization that aimed to reform the religious government. She worked with the Mainframe to gather the Sivylla from around the world. Manipulated by the Mainframe, Corelai shaped the world with her power over technology. Corelai and Maxence entered a queerplatonic relationship. The two decided to explore outer space together.
During "Gavin and Jamelia," Corelai and Maxence discovered an emergency housing satellite and uncovered the scandal behind it. In the aftermath, they adopted Jamelia.
In "Death's Mending Touch," Corelai and Maxence were still exploring outer space. Corelai had taken on the astronaut stage name Fay Darilek. She reconnected with the Sivylla when the group sought a safe place to stay the night.
Appearance
Corelai was born a human. She was a 5'7", Black woman. She tended to have short, dark, coily hair. She loved wearing box braids—especially in outer space. She often dyed her braids purple. She had dark brown eyes. During "Gavin and Jamelia" and "Death's Mending Touch," she was most often seen in her NASAX astronaut uniform.
Personality, Behavior, Et Cetera
Growing up, Corelai bundled up her secrets with her frustration. After all the events of her teenage years, she grew to be levelheaded in tense circumstances. In her 20s, she was always excited to explore more of outer space. She could make something out of any material she was handed. Her engineering specialties were in aerospace and mechanical engineering. She both liked and hated physics. She talked to technology even when it wasn't sentient.
She was fiercely loyal to her friends and unafraid to defy law for what was right. She hated being manipulated and used. Her anxiety didn't often help her, but she figured out how to use it to power her motivation without letting it burn her out... most of the time.
She was aromantic and in a queerplatonic relationship.
Relationships
After her teenage years, Corelai was on good terms with a group of friends, including Dix, Aru, and Aman. She sometimes saw her sister Heka as well.
Corelai loved being around Maxence. Their queerplatonic relationship involved them living and working with each other, prioritizing time together, and being comfortable touching each other. Not everyone understood how they worked well together, but they didn't mind.
During "Gavin and Jamelia," Corelai and Maxence rescued Jamelia from an abandoned emergency housing satellite. Since Jamelia didn't have anywhere to go, Corelai and Maxence agreed that she could stay with them until she got back on her feet. After some time, they realized that legally adopting Jamelia would be most beneficial to her. Although Corelai wasn't sure whether she was doing enough—especially since she was only a few years older than Jamelia—she tried her best to be a mentor figure for her.
Corelai missed the Sivylla she mentored, so she was excited to see them again in "Death's Mending Touch."
