Dix Ito
He/him
Dix was born and raised in Houston, T-Territory in the 2180s. He knew early on that he wanted to stand by his best friend, Aru, no matter what. When Dix realized how abusive Aru's father was, he begged Renovatio—a popular organization training kids to become engineers—to take them both in. The two of them transferred to the Dallas Renovatio to avoid encountering Aru's father again.
In his teenage years, Dix trained to specialize in electrical engineering and architecture. He helped during the engineer protest Corelai led. He also aided Heka as the Arkhitekton of Dallas for some time before transferring to Houston when Aru encountered trouble in the city again. Dix joined Corelai, Aru, and others in helping the Antistasi, an organization that was pushing for political reform.
Due to Aru's father being taken out of his position, Aru was appointed as a new Supreme in Houston. Dix went with as Aru's fiancé. The two married and worked from within the government to enforce reform. Later, they decided to adopt a child—Alexis. When Alexis fell in love with the humlux Kiran, Dix and Aru agreed to help fund a lab-created child for the two—Cai.
In "When Truth Cowers," Dix and Aru lived out their early retirement in Houston. They loved spontaneously videochatting and calling their family. Dix also tapped into security cameras to check in on his family.
Appearance
Dix was born a human. He was an East Asian Amalrican man. His recent lineage was primarily Japanese. In "When Truth Cowers," he retained a decent amount of the muscle from his youth. Although his hair lightened with age, he continued dying parts of it light blue. Although his look was more like a stereotypical goth and jock mix when he was younger, he primarily retained wearing athletic leisure clothing in his older age. His left arm had a tattoo sleeve primarily showcasing a bunch of live wires twisting and turning out from a coffin. He wore less makeup than he used to.
Personality, Behavior, Et Cetera
Dix aimed to be the jokester to lighten the mood of people around him. He had thought about so many dark things throughout his life that he hoped that acting playful would improve his mood too.
He was gay. He was also a video game and science fiction nerd.
After all the stress he had been through, he was plenty happy to grow old with Aru. Although he was a retired engineer, he worked as a mechanic in his free time because he couldn't stay away from machines.
Relationships
Dix hadn't ever had romantic affection for anyone but Aru. He would take on punishment behind Aru's back to protect them. The two had been best friends since childhood. It took them being roommates for a few years before admitting that they had romantic feelings for each other. Playing video games, watching movies, and spying on family members lightened their spirits.
Since Aru didn't know that they had a sibling until the Mainframe events, Dix didn't know either. When the Antistasi found Tera, she knew that she was Aru's half-sibling on their father's side. Their father had sold Tera and her mother into a human trafficking ring because he didn't want the public to know that he had cheated on his wife. Dix and Aru took Tera in. Not only did Tera become a little sister for Aru, but also for Dix.
When Aru and Dix adopted, they decided they wanted to adopt a child who looked more like Dix than Aru (as a way of further distancing themselves from the LeBlanc family). They adopted a child who was happy for a new name—Alexis. They gave her every opportunity they could, and they loved how independent she became. They did worry a little though that she wouldn't keep up with modern technology due to how much she rejected it for nature.
At the beginning of "When Truth Cowers," he would do anything for Cai, his granddaughter. He would even scramble online evidence if Cai asked—which she did once. He also loved how Cai and Analisa interacted with a dynamic similar to how Dix and Aru were around each other.
