Joane Lu
She/her
In the 2210s, Joane grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut with her two mothers and four sisters. She lived fairly comfortably, enjoying the restaurants and upscale shopping available nearby—plus the easy commute to New York City. Her primary interest was in interacting with people, especially over food. She began a fairly popular food blog and worked her way up to being a waitress at an upscale restaurant in New York City.
Usually, her reward for working at the upscale restaurant was decent pay and gossip among elites. She was pleasantly surprised that it also gave her the opportunity to meet a shy botanist who respectfully flirted with her. After a few months of dating Jared, she moved into an apartment with him in New York City.
By "When Truth Cowers," Joane and Jared were together for over a year. They applied for game shows to raise money for Jared's research idea—and their potential wedding. When Joane and Jared were cast on the broadcast game show Truth or Dare, they enjoyed the opportunity as one of the two couples on the show. Although the round of Truth or Dare began as dramatically as usual, the players soon found themselves being killed one by one. As it was technically legal and the producers found a live murder mystery compelling, the players were forced to stay in the game until the end.

Appearance
Joane was born a human. She was an East Asian woman with pale skin and dark brown eyes. Her recent ancestry was primarily Chinese. In "When Truth Cowers," she was skinny and 5'2". Her hair was long, thin, and black. She preferred loose clothes, like skirts and dresses she could spin in. Her ears were pierced. She enjoyed wearing hairpieces incorporating flowers, especially purple ones. She liked going for a minimal look with her makeup.
Personality, Behavior, Et Cetera
Joane had a sweet, attentive demeanor. She paid attention to the needs of others and preferred keeping the peace over arguing. She wouldn't be pushed over by others though—she would show her firm side when she thought it was necessary.
She wasn't afraid to admit that she appreciated beauty. She found beauty everywhere—in flowers, food, clothing, spaces, people, and more. Gathering with people for a meal was one of her favorite activities.
Relationships
Joane loved her two mothers who doted on her throughout her childhood. She was a dutiful daughter who visited her family often in adulthood. She loved playing games and mildly bickering with her four sisters. She was the youngest child.
Joane wasn't close with her coworkers, but she enjoyed hanging out with them and sharing gossip about the restaurant's clientele on occasion.
Jared destabilized the walls she put up. Did she plan to date someone who attended the restaurant? Not really. Customers flirted all the time. But his shy attempts at flirting were so respectful and innocent that she wanted to know him. Jared was so smart and never treated her like she wasn't. His unwavering adoration for her made her fall hard.
In "When Truth Cowers," the two weren't sure who they could trust in Truth or Dare, so they relied on each other.
